Accessibility
We want Overtly to be usable by everyone, and we build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.
What we test
- Text contrast on every type of page, at phone, tablet and desktop widths. Pages are also checked so that nothing forces sideways scrolling on a phone.
- Automated accessibility rules for WCAG 2.2 at levels A and AA on every type of page, signed out and signed in, at phone and desktop widths.
- The learner's path with the keyboard alone: creating an account, starting a course, finishing a module, opening the dashboard, signing out and resetting a password. A script does this in a real browser.
All three run before the site is released.
What the last check found
On October 3, 2026 the automated rules found no failures and the keyboard path completed. Before that run we fixed what an earlier one found: there was no link to skip to the content, four pages had no main region, headings were out of order on two pages, one exercise marked up its steps incorrectly, and quiz feedback was not announced to assistive technology.
Known limits
- No person has yet tested the site with a screen reader. The automated rules confirm that names, roles and landmarks are present. They cannot confirm that a page makes sense read aloud.
- Where a course has video, a written script is offered beside it, but the video has no synchronized captions yet.
- Exhibits in Insights are images. Each has a text description, but the type inside the image is small on a phone.
- The site has not had an independent audit.
